A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER TWO-HANDLED WINE COOLERS WITH SILVER LINERS

Of campana form with part-fluted decoration and applied with sloping gadroon borders, the applied handles formed as looped cornucopiae, with separate liners and collars, the whole raised on spread circular base with stepped and sloping gadroon bands, engraved with a coat of arms

FOOTNOTES The arms of WHITSHED quartering HARDING impaling the quartered arms of BENTINCK for James Hawkins-Whitshed of Killincarrick, co. Wicklow, 1762-1849 , 3rd son of the Bishop of Raphoe, who married Sophia Henrietta Bentinck in 1791. As a distinguished sailor James Whitshed reached the rank of Admiral RN, whose appointments included C-in-C, Cork and C-in-C, Portsmouth. He was a pall bearer at the funeral of Lord Nelson and was created GCB in 1830, a Baronet of the UK in 1834 and a Baron in the Kingdom of Hanover. More recently the British Admiralty named a modified W class destroyer (D77) HMS Whitshed in his honour.
